Two faces of Mr Rochester

Yesterday I received the heads of my Rochester and Jane from a faceup. Now I can say that the artist who kindly agreed to fulfill my dream is very well known Cristy Stone. It is just amazing how she sensed my inner image of them! I could not be happier with the result!! And I am really grateful to Cristy for making this couple so special for me. They don’t even look like dolls. They look as if they were alive!

So, Mr Rochester first!

The faceup was based on the photographs of Timothy Dalton from Jane Eyre 1983.

If you remember, the base for this character is Arvid from Iplehouse. I asked Cristy to do some modifications. She removed the tip of Arvid’s nose (which was too pointed for Rochester!) and also added a small dimple on his chin. Obviously, it’s impossible to make an exact replica of a person, but I believe my Rochester as close as can be to the original!

I am not quite sure which eyes to stick to. The brown ones are exactly what Rochester is supposed to be according to the book (“large, brilliant and black”!) while the grey ones look more like Timothy Dalton’s (though his eyes are, actually, green, in the film they look rather grayish). I am inclined to stick with the brown eyes, but first would like to hear other opinions.

So, Rochester with brown eyes:

  2. Cristy is an amazing artist! Absolutely love his “nose job” and cute dimple! And I think the grey eyes make him more lifelike but he is handsome either way. Probably you should keep brown for authenticity.

  6. Sviatlana, thanks a lot! I think the grey eyes may look more lifelike because after I replaced the brown ones I decided to use an external flash (not directed at the doll but turned the way to just reflect some light into the eyes). I wonder whether that may be the difference. I have put the brown one back now and will need to take some pictures with the same flash to see if there is any difference. I find the brown eyes warmer somehow.

    1. Thank you, Alice! I really appreciate your opinion! http://www.swish-swirl.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_rose.gif Despite the fact that Timothy Dalton has green eyes, I also think this doll looks better with brown ones, just like Mr Rochester in the book.
