The dream of my dreams!! Perhaps, my most awaited doll. Finally, he is whole and gorgeous – beyond my wildest dreams! Iplehouse EID Dexter on a new Model body.
He is my John Thornton from Elizabeth Gaskell’s North and South and is supposed to look like Mr Thornton as played by Richard Armitage in the BBC mini-series 2004.
When I saw Dexter’s gorgeous profile, I instantly knew that only he can be Mr Thornton. His chin, though, was too square, so I am truly grateful to Cristy Stone who agreed to take the challenge on and try to make him look like Mr Thornton. I sent Cristy a huge stack of photographs from the film. She modified Dexter’s chin and sculpted his sideburns. The transformation is simply astonishing!
John Thornton lives in 1851 in a northern manufacturing town called Milton (supposed to be Manchester, but was filmed in Edinburgh). He is the Master of Marlborough Mills. He is stern looking but has tender heart. When beautiful Margaret Hale moves to Milton from the South of England, they don’t get on well at first. John thinks Margaret haughty, but still falls deeply in love with her. However, he thinks she is beyond him since she is a lady and he is a simple uneducated man because he had to leave school and start earning money for his family at the age of 14 after his father’s death. But he is very eager to learn. He becomes Margaret’s father’s favourite student – they have discussions about Plato and Aristotle and about the northern and southern ways of life. Gradually, Margaret falls in love with John…
