Mondrian dress for Sam

I remember seeing this dress on various photos in the past and strongly associating it with the 1960s. However, I didn’t know anything about it: the name (Mondrian), the creator (Yves Saint-Lorraine) or the painting it was based on (I didn’t have a faintest idea there were paintings like that – they are not at all to my taste, I dislike the modern abstract art so much!).

But the dress itself is wonderful so I thought I wanted it for my Sam. I made the pattern myself. The dress is fully lined and closes at the back with a zipper.

  1. Bonjour,
I sew this dress for my Little Darling too months ago. It was after a model of Yves Saint -Laurent, french désigner, and even though I am not fan of modern art, I find this dress funny foŕ girls.

    1. Thank you, Pom! I do not sell my patterns – yet! But I am getting there. I am making my first PDF pattern at the moment. I don’t know how long it will take me. I may consider making a pattern for this dress, too.

  2. I like your new dress, it really suits her!
I do believe that there were very similar dresses to this given out at one of the Sasha festivals in the US, because of the Sasha’s originating in that same period.
I too associate this style with the 1960s.
